Continuous Thermal Monitoring

Detect Heat Before It Becomes Failure

Continuous thermal monitoring for critical bus duct joints—helping identify developing hotspots early, reduce unplanned outages and support predictive maintenance.

Bus duct joints are critical connection points where vibration, thermal expansion, ageing and connection deterioration can create abnormal heat. Eaton Exertherm provides continuous temperature monitoring at these joints, helping maintenance teams identify developing hotspots before they lead to equipment damage or unplanned power loss. The permanently installed monitoring system provides continuous visibility rather than relying only on periodic thermal inspections, making it suitable for both new and existing bus duct installations.

How It Works

Thermal sensors are installed at selected bus duct joints and connected to the Exertherm monitoring system. Temperature data is continuously analysed to identify abnormal conditions and changes between monitored connection points. When a developing hotspot is detected, the system provides an early-warning alarm and identifies the affected joint, allowing maintenance teams to investigate and take corrective action before the condition becomes critical.

EXERTHERM BUS DUCT MONITORING

Bus duct

Continuous 24/7 joint monitoring
Early detection of abnormal temperature rise
Faster identification of affected connections
Reduced risk of unplanned outages
Improved electrical and personnel safety
Support for predictive maintenance
Reduced dependence on periodic thermographic inspections
Suitable for new installations and retrofit projects

Exertherm temperature and alarm data can be integrated with wider facility-monitoring systems through Modbus RS485 communication.

The solution can interface with:
Electrical Power Monitoring Systems
Building Management Systems
SCADA platforms
Energy-management systems
Central maintenance dashboards
This gives operators remote alarms, condition trends and a central view of bus duct performance.

Exertherm Bus Duct Monitoring is suited to facilities where electrical continuity and system reliability are essential, including:

Data centres
Industrial and manufacturing facilities
Hospitals and healthcare sites
Airports and transport infrastructure
Commercial buildings
Utilities and power facilities
Oil and gas installations
Other mission-critical environments
